Over the years, the team have spent a good amount of time living, traveling and exploring the North East of India, home to c. 50million people, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a territory that is opening up with opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors as the area rapidly develops. As a gateway to South East Asia the region is of critical importance to forge and transit trade with neighbouring Myanmar, Bangladesh and nearby Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and China, to name but a few. We see a real need to support and inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs in the region, traditionally the best talent has migrated to fulfil their career aspirations.
All the funds raised will go directly to 4 selected entrepreneurs that have pitched their business plans to us. We have already received pledges from large corporations in India, which is fantastic, with local support of central and local Government. We have hundreds of runners (entrepreneurs and interested stakeholders) turning out to help in some small way put the NE entrepreneurs on the map.
The 4 half marathons (21kms) will take place in the four NE states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur in the 1st week of September. The charitable run is in association with MNet, one of the North East’s leading telecom companies and is endorsed by the Income Tax Department of Guwahati in an effort to spread awareness about their Income Declaration Scheme 2016. The initiative is also supported by a team of senior international executives, and will bring together corporates, multinationals, celebrities, sportspersons and people from all walks of life running in the cities of Guwahati, Shillong, Kohima and Imphal.
The proceeds of the run will go towards supporting local entrepreneurship in the region as well as towards flood relief in the states. Sharing his vision Nigel Eastwood commented, “The NE is an opportunity waiting to happen. My aim is not only to raise money to invest in budding entrepreneurs, but more importantly to showcase the opportunities and huge potential of the North East with a population of 50m people. To create more jobs and build a diverse growing economy in the NE of India we need to catalyse, competitive and growing businesses. We aim to inspire, motivate and mentor entrepreneurs in the region. There is an urgent need to create a more favourable climate for entrepreneurship, a stronger ‘entrepreneurial ecosystem’ is the key to the NE’s competitiveness and development”
The Run would be followed by business networking sessions. These sessions attended by wide network of investors, local entrepreneurs, businesses will give an opportunity for entrepreneurs to discuss their business plans and get a chance to receive a proportion of the funds raised, assisted and mentored for their initiative by Nigel Eastwood and his team.
Whether, you can run, walk or cycle all participants are welcomed. We are holding a 5km course for those who want to take part but prefer a short distance.
All funds are going to the
North East Development Foundation
